Aeration calendar

When public courses punch and sand their greens. Fresh holes mean slower, bumpier putts for a week or two, and some courses cut their rates while the greens heal. Dates come from each course's own website and booking page; tap Source to check.

Questions golfers ask

What is aeration?

Course crews pull or punch small plugs out of the greens (and sometimes tees and fairways), then usually fill the holes with sand. It lets air and water reach the roots and keeps the greens healthy, but for a while putts roll slower and bounce.

How long do greens take to heal after aeration?

It depends on the weather and on how the course did it, often one to three weeks. Davis Golf Course, for example, tells golfers to expect altered conditions for 7 to 10 days.

Is golf cheaper during aeration?

Often. Some courses cut their rates while the greens heal: this fall The Ridge took $10 off, Yocha Dehe 20% off and Davis charged twilight rates all day. Each listing here says what the course posted.

Where do these dates come from?

Only from each course's own website or booking page, plus the aerification flags the booking systems put on tee times. Golf Public checks the booking systems every hour. If a course hasn't posted a date, call the course.
